Rev. Rurel R. Ausley, Jr.
1985 - 1988

Rev. Rurel  Ausley and his wife Lisa served at Aldersgate from 1985 to 1988.  Rurel recalls his years at Aldersgate as pleasant years full of memories, particularly of children’s early years.  He remembers the church’s first playground being built, Lisa teaching an exercise class (laughingly stating that  Lisa still exercises regularly), and the addition of the living room to the parsonage.

Rurel states that his time at Aldersgate was “not all fun” but very fulfilling.  His message to us is to “Pray and continue to reach people in Christ.  Do whatever it takes to keep growing and reach new people.”

Rurel has now been at Crosspoint United Methodist Church for 18 years as Lead Pastor. The church has seen great growth during these years.  Crosspoint currently has 4 locations and serves a congregation of 3700.  Lisa is also on staff and serves the South Crestview Campus.  She does pastoral care, new membership classes, oversees their volunteer program, and preaches routinely.

Rurel and Lisa arrived at Aldersgate with 2 year old Matthew, who is now an attorney.  Matt and his wife Kristin have Rurel and Lisa’s first grandchild, Levi Rurel.   Andrew was born during their time at Aldersgate; he currently lives in Atlanta and works as an engineer.   Andrew and his wife Ellen are currently expecting their first child.  Luke is the youngest and was born several years after the Ausleys left Aldersgate.  He currently works on Eglin Air Force Base in Research Engineering.
